About Me
Hi there, it's nice to see you here! I'm Fernando, a SENIOR INFRA, SYSADMIN, CLOUD and DEVOPS ENGINEER with 30+ years of experience in IT. Yes, I started my journey really young, about 13 years old, learning about DOS 6.22, Windows 3.11, WordStar, Clipper and DBASE (some old stuff).
I am self-motivated and a fast learner with a strong professional background in both the public and private sectors. My focus is always on security and best practices to achieve high availability of systems and services.
For the last 24 years I have been working inside on-premise Data Centers and I can say I always try to bring the most efficient solutions, that is why I have been prioritizing to implant and manage so many open-source solutions, and when is not possible, I evaluate the paid solutions with the pros and cons and their impact in the business. So, when a decision it is not at my reach, I can provide assuredness to my superiors and they can do the best decision for the company. Due my long-time experience in IT, I can assure I have a combination of technical skills and business knowledge that work as an advantage for me and the company, affording me the ability to preview the impact of choices and decisions about IT in the whole business scenario.
In the last 7 years my focus has changed to the Cloud and Devops areas due to the demands of my last job and with my long on-premises experience this change was very smooth and I also discovered a new love. Due to this new love, I took dozens of certifications and training in Cloud, Devops, IAC, CI/CD and much more.

Work Experience
At the DSE these are the most important technologies I use to make our guests' experience Magical:
-
Amazon Web Services (AWS): IAM, VPC, S3, EFS, EC2, ASG. ELB, APPSTREAM2.0, ECS, ECR, CW, Kinesis, Route53;
-
Containers and Orchestration: Rancher and Kubernetes (the challenge to run Kubernetes in a floating Data Center – aka: inside a Cruise Ship);
-
Source Control Management (SCM): GITHUB and GITLAB;
-
Infrastructure as a Code (IaC): Terraform and Atlantis;
-
Configuration management: Ansible and AWX;
-
CICD: Jenkins, Rundeck, AzureDevops, GitLab CI;
-
Windows and Linux servers.
-
Set, implemented and managed the Compute, Storage, Networking, Backup, Security, Cloud and Devops solutions to solve problems and keep the perfect work of the infrastructure of a 24/7/365 operation of an enterprise company which the turnover is approximately US$ 310 million per year.
-
Monitored and managed the infrastructure on-premises (VMWARE) and Multicloud (AWS, Azure and GCP) using tools like Terraform, Ansible and scripting (Bash, PowerShell and Pyton), increasing the availability of the systems and services.
-
Created, monitored and managed the Deployments using Linux, GitLab, Jenkins, Nexus, SonarQube, Keycloak, Apache, Nginx, Traefik, Docker, Kubernetes, ARGOCD, Security Protocols (TLS, SSL, HTTPS) and more in a successful effort to modernize the systems and the sevices with a massive use of open source tools.
-
Made 3 Data Center migrations with over 400 virtual machines and 3 Firewall migrations (Linux IPTABLES -> CISCO ASA -> PALO ALTO -> FORTINET), defining and managing rules for the Firewall, IPS, IDS and WAF services. Each migration was an evolution compared to the previous solution, bringing greater efficiency, availability and security to the company's operation.
